Here at St. Andrew’s pupils are taught music using the music scheme ‘Charanga’.
In line with the curriculum for music and guidance from Ofsted, this Scheme moves away from the previous levels and learning objective/outcome concepts to an integrated, practical, exploratory and child-led approach to musical learning.
Each Unit of Work comprises the of strands of musical learning which correspond with the national curriculum for music:
Throughout these lessons pupils have the opportunity to play glockenspiels, recorders and orchestral instruments. Those pupils who play instruments in a band or through alternative tuition, are encouraged to use those instruments in the music lesson.
Here at St. Andrew’s we are incredibly proud of our school choir. The pupils in this group meet weekly after school and take part in a number of events throughout the year. Some of this year’s highlights have included attending Young Voices, singing at the Brighouse Victorian and 1940’s weekend, performing and hosting The Choir of the Year with our local church schools.
Calderdale Music Trust offer a range of lessons available at our school. More information on lesson types, availability and pricing is available here.
